Air Flow and System Resistance
June 22, 2003

Every component within an air distribution system adds resistance to the air handlers ability to move the specified amount of air. The amount of total resistance specified (static pressure) in a fan specification is calculated for the required system airflow. The resistance will therefor be determined by the amount of air flow - if air flow is more than specified the resistance will also be more, and vise versa for less air flow.
